Olfen water-based gel penetrates the skin very well and therefore quickly and effectively relieves pain at the application site. It is recommended as an excellent alternative and complementary therapy when using painkillers in tablet form.
Composition
The active substance is diclofenac, the sodium salt. 1 g of gel contains 10 mg of diclofenac, sodium salt.
The other ingredients are: diisopropyl adipate, lactic acid, isopropyl alcohol, sodium hydrogen sulphite, hydroxypropylcellulose, hydroxyethylcellulose, purified water.

What is a medicine and what is it used for

Olfen gel is a drug with anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect for external use. It contains 1% diclofenac, sodium salt, in a cooling gel base that is well tolerated by the skin.
In inflammation of rheumatic or traumatic origin, olfen gel relieves pain, inhibits inflammation and reduces swelling.
Diclofenac, the sodium salt, is absorbed through the skin after topical application. Its presence is demonstrable in plasma. About 3.3% of the topically applied dose is absorbed. The metabolites of diclofenac, the sodium salt, that occur after topical administration are similar to those after oral administration.

Therapeutic indications

Olfen gel is used for the local treatment of arthrosis, extra-articular rheumatism (eg tendovaginitis, bursitis, tendinitis, periarthropathy) and for inflammation after injury to tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints (eg bruises, sprains and dislocations).

What you need to know before using the drug

Do not use the drug if you are hypersensitive to diclofenac, sodium salt, or gel base of the drug, to acetylsalicylic acid or other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
Olfen gel should only be applied to undamaged skin.
Rashes, open wounds, skin eczema, eyes and mucous membranes should not come into contact with the gel.

Precautions and warnings

Olfen gel should not be applied under occlusive, airtight dressings.
Safety and efficacy in children have not been established.
Not for oral use.

Use during pregnancy and lactation

Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine.
The safety of diclofenac during pregnancy and lactation has not been established, therefore its use during these periods should be avoided, especially in the first and third trimesters.

Influence on psychophysical abilities

It is not known if the medicine has a general effect on the ability to drive or use machines.

Drug interactions

For Olfen gel, no cross-action with other drugs has been observed.
When Olfen gel and other forms of Olfen are used in combination, an enhanced effect is possible.

How to use the drug

Depending on the size of the area to be treated, apply 2-3 g of Olfen gel 3-4 times a day and rub lightly.
Olfen gel should only be used on undamaged skin. The medicine should not come into contact with wounds, eyes or mucous membranes.
Olfen gel can also be used in combination with other forms of Olfen (eg oral forms of the medicine).

Overdose and intoxication

Prolonged use of overdoses on large areas of skin may result in systemic absorption and systemic side effects of diclofenac. Treatment is symptomatic.
If the gel is ingested, consult a doctor.

Possible side effects

Like all medicines, Olfen gel can have side effects.
Serious side effects are very rare. Occasionally, itching, reddening of the skin, skin rash or skin irritation, and burning pain may occur. With long-term application to large areas of skin, systemic side effects such as nausea, dizziness, headache or asthma attack cannot be ruled out.
