Description

What is Canesten cream and what is it used for

1 g of cream contains 10 mg of clotrimazole.

Clotrimazole, the active substance in Canesten, is an imidazole derivative with a broad spectrum of antifungal activity. Clotrimazole acts on fungi by inhibiting the production of ergosterol. This results in structural and functional defects of the cytoplasmic membrane.

Canesten cream is used to treat fungal infections of the skin and mucous membranes caused by dermatophytes (e.g. Trichophyton species), yeasts (e.g. Candido species), molds and other microorganisms, e.g. Malassezia furfurali Corynebacterium, and skin diseases superinfected by these fungi.

Such infections are:

fungal infections of the feet, skin between the toes and hands, paronychia, superinfections in skin diseases, fungal infections of the skin and skin folds, candidiasis, pityriasis versicolor (tinea versicolor), infections with Corynebacterium minutissimum (erythrasma), seborrheic dermatitis na tete fungi.

Canesten cream is also used to treat infections of the labia and the area around them, which is caused by yeast (candidal vulvitis and candidal balanitis) caused by the scalp and foreskin of the male limb.

What you need to know before using Canesten cream

Do not use if you are hypersensitive to clotrimazole, cetyl and stearyl alcohol or other excipients. In this case, consult your doctor before using the drug. In cases of known hypersensitivity to cetyl and stearyl alcohol, it is recommended that you use a dermal spray solution or solution instead of Canesten cream.

In candidal vulvitis and candidal balanitis, the use of the solution is not allowed.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding

Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine.

If you use Canesten cream as prescribed in the instructions or anchors ordered by a doctor or pharmacist, only a small amount of the active substance is absorbed, so the occurrence of systemic effects (effects on other organs) is unlikely. There are no studies on the use of Canesten cream during pregnancy. In early pregnancy, care should be taken to ensure that Canesten cream does not enter the vagina when treating genital infections. Breastfeeding mothers should not apply Canesten creams to the breasts.

What should you look for if you are taking other medicines?

Canesten cream reduces the effectiveness of other products for the treatment of fungal infections (amphotericin and other polyene antibiotics, eg nystatin).

When Canesten cream is applied to the labia and vulva area or to the head and foreskin of the male limb, the effectiveness and safety of latex products (condoms, diaphragm) may be reduced. This effect is short-lived and disappears at the end of treatment.

How to use Canesten cream

You must use the medicine!flock as prescribed in this leaflet (unless your doctor tells you otherwise). If you do not follow the instructions exactly, the medicine will not work properly.

Two to three times a day, apply a thin layer of Canesten cream to the affected areas and rub it in. In most cases, a small amount of cream (1/2 cm) is enough for a surface as big as a palm. Wash and dry the affected area thoroughly before applying the cream.

To treat an infection of the labia and the area around them, apply Canesten cream to the affected areas two to three times a day.

The cream can also be used to treat inflammation of the head and foreskin of the male limb caused by yeasts (candida ba!anitis).

The duration of treatment varies and depends on the extent and localization of the disease. For complete cure, treatment should not be stopped as soon as the symptoms of the infection disappear.

Treatment lasts for:

dermatomycoses 3 to 4 weeks

erythrasma 2 to 4 weeks

pityriasis versicolor 1 to 3 weeks

candidal vulvitis and candidal balanitis for 1 to 2 weeks.

In order to prevent recurrence of the disease, treatment of the foot fungus should be continued, despite rapid improvement, approximately 2 weeks after the disappearance of all symptoms.

What to do if you used too much cream?

There is no evidence that the use of too much Canesten cream will cause side effects.

What to do if you forgot to apply one dose of cream?

If you forget to take a dose, do not take the next dose.

What to do if you want to stop treatment?

- If you want to completely cure the fungal infection and prevent it from recurring, you should not end the treatment without consulting your doctor. If you decide to do this anyway, you run the risk of the disease recurring. You should not stop treatment as soon as the symptoms of the infection have disappeared, but should continue as prescribed in this package leaflet.

What can you do to treat the infection?

Linen, clothing and towels that come in contact with the affected part should be changed daily. This will help in healing and prevent infection of other de!bodies and other people.

Possible side effects

Like all medicines, Canesten cream can have side effects.

In rare cases, skin reactions (redness, burning or stinging sensation) may occur. Hypersensitivity reactions may occur in patients who are hypersensitive to cetyl and stearyl alcohol. In such cases, we recommend the use of Canesten solution or Canesten dermal spray solution, which do not contain cetyl and steari! alcohol.

If these side effects occur for the first time or if the condition worsens, stop using the cream and talk to your doctor.
