Afrin - what is this medicine, and what is Afrin used for

Afrin is intended for effective and rapid relief of symptoms of a stuffy nose (due to a thickened nasal mucosa) and relief from hay fever or sinus disease. 
Afrin spray can be used every 12 hours.

Afrin is NOT recommended if:

• inflammation of the nasal mucosa or hypersensitivity to oxymetazoline chloride - the active substance in Afrin!
• if the user is under six years of age.

Take special care with Afrin!

Excessive use of Afrin usually has the exact opposite effect. 
The use of Afrin for more than one week is not recommended, as excessive use of Afrin causes nasal congestion!
If symptoms do not improve after seven days of using Afrin according to the instructions, we recommend you consult Your doctor or pharmacist.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding and the use of Afrin during this period

The use of oxymetazoline, which is the active substance in Afrin, is not associated with any complications during pregnancy. 
However, caution should not be exercised when Afrin is used in all hypertensive or anemic subjects.

It is not known whether oxymetazoline is excreted in human milk. Therefore, due to a lack of data on the use of oxymetazoline during breastfeeding, Afrin should not be used during breastfeeding.

How to use Afrin

For adults and children over ten years of age, 1 to 2 puffs of Afrin into each nostril every 12 hours.
Children 6 to 10 years of age: 1 puff of Afrin into each nostril every 12 hours.

It is recommended that you do not exceed the stated dose.
Afrin should not be used for more than seven days unless prescribed by a doctor. After that, it should take several days before you can use it again.
Before using it for the first time, prepare the device by pressing the pump several times until the first full spray of Afrin is reached. Then, hold the bottle upright, insert the nebulizer into each nostril, and press firmly once or twice, inhaling through the nose simultaneously.
Wipe the nebulizer after use. Using this medicine in more than one person may spread the infection.
